brianharris2007-10-18-1192728179.jpgA school community is mourning the loss of one of its teachers.  Brian Harris, 31, taught health for the last five years at Greece Arcadia. He died Wednesday after his truck slammed into a bridge overpass on the Lake Ontario State Parkway. Principal Lesley Flick and his students say he will be sorely missed.

“He always helped out people more than he helped out himself,” said Nichole Waldron, a senior who had health class with Harris in 10th grade.

“You never complained about having Mr. Harris,” said Kurt Sillen, a senior. “You were happy you were assigned him.”

And according to Principal Flick, Harris was a true Titan and more than your average health teacher.

“He supported our students, he supported our community, and he was a significant part of that much beyond teaching of students during the day,” she said.

Harris also advised the student council and was a huge support of Titan athletics.

“He was full of school spirit,” Sillen said. “That's all he had.”

“He would always dress up for spirit week and go to every game he could,” said Stephanie Topel, a senior.

And many students could relate to Harris.

“You could talk to him about anything,” Topel said. “He made class really fun for health.”

“I was in his class, and he let me go to the next door teacher to watch a basketball game because he knew how much I liked sports,” Sillen said.

While some students remembered Mr. Harris at school, others went out to the scene where he lost his life to say goodbye to the man who will always be a Titan in the hearts of so many.
