Lawley Andolina Verdi, LLC and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company will award $10,000 to West Webster that will be used for the purchase of 50 escape ropes and harnesses. The need for the equipment was heightend after two New York City firefighters died while trying to escape a fourth floor apartment building fire in 2002. Officials say he died because they didn't have escape ropes.
The West Webster Fire Department protects over 10,000 homes and well over 500 businesses. Firefighters will also demonstrate how the ropes and harnesses will be used today.
