The Greece community is in mourning today after learning that Health Education Teacher Brian Harris was killed in a car accident on Wednesday night.
Police say Harris veered off the Lake Ontario Parkway in his Chevy S-10 pickup truck, hitting the Manitou Road bridge.
Witnesses say Harris wasn't speeding and no cars were involved in the accident. Harris died at the scene. Brian Harris taught Health Ed. to about 250 students in grades 10 thru12.
Today, grief counselors will be on hand to help students cope with the loss.
On a web posting, Harris described his teaching style: "I use a real hands-on approach in a real life application to help my students gain a better appreciation of their health." Harris was also a student council advisor at the school to nine seniors and four juniors.
Parents say he had a special way of connecting with students. "He had a very positive impact with his students, and with the busy lives that students have, he still managed to get through to them."
Brian Harris had been a teacher at Greece Arcadia High School for the past five years. He was married and had a 20-month old daughter. He was 31 years old.
