Governor Spitzer to announce Regional Economic Development Plan in Rochester

By: WROC-TV
Updated: October 16, 2007
Governor Spitzer will be in Rochester today to discuss his Regional Economic Development Plan. He'll make his pitch from Midtown Plaza, in the heart of downtown Rochester.

It's not yet known if that means Midtown--which is nearly empty, will benefit from state funding. But will Governor Spitzer's visit to Rochester be over-shadowed by his executive order to issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants? According to a new poll, just 22 percent polled supported the measure.

Democrats oppose the governor's plan by a 59-34 percent margin in the The Sienna Research Survey. That same poll also shows that if the 2010 Governor's race were held today.. Spitzer would lose to Republican New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is against the plan. Bloomberg would bring in about 50-percent of the votes to Spitzer's 37-percent.
