Wayne County fatal crash

State police are investigating a deadly crash involving one of their own.

It was Sunday night in the Wayne County town of Huron on Route 104 when Trooper Eric Kristansen collided with another car.  The civilian driver, 30-year-old Shonda Skinner, was killed in the crash, pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary reports say Skinner made a left hand turn onto Rt. 104 West, into the path of Kristansen’s patrol car.  Reports say Kristansen tried to avoid striking her car but was unable to.

The trooper’s vehicle flipped over on impact, forcing him to cut himself free of his seatbelt before he was able to reach the victims in Skinner’s car.

Skinner’s 7-year-old son Jayden, a passenger in her vehicle, suffered a broken leg.  The boy was flown to Strong Hospital by Mercy Flight from the scene for treatment.

Trooper Kristansen suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Police say the investigation into how this all happened will take a few days.
