MELROYBRIEFINGB2007-10-09-1191962976.jpgThe crew of Space Shuttle Discovery is counting down the days until their launch at the end of the month.

Discovery is expected to blast off October 23rd.   The crew is now training at Florida's Kennedy Space Center. This week they went through emergency training and staged a "practice" countdown for their upcoming mission.  The Discovery crew is led by Rochester native astronaut Pam Melroy. Tuesday, Melroy talked about the pre-launch excitement.

"When you start getting close to your vehicle and you realize it's not a simulator anymore, you're really going to go do it, it's a very big moment, very exciting," said Melroy.

Melroy will become the second woman ever to command a U.S. shuttle mission.
