A celebration of life became a rally for justice at Latasha Shaw's funeral Friday morning. The mother of four was stabbed to death on a city street Sept. 29. She was remembered as an active community member and valuable employee at the University of Rochester.
"She's everybody's keeper," said Lethia Buntly, a friend. "She's not as boisterous, but her presence was always felt."
"She would give her shirt off her back to anyone," said Mary Love, a close friend.
Shaw was defending her 14-year-old daughter when she was brutally beaten and stabbed to death. Now that Shaw can't fight anymore, her friends and family are fighting for her to find out who's responsible for her death.
"We're trying to find answers to our questions because it made no sense," said Tammy Burnett, Shaw's cousin.
And community members say, along with police, they'll be taking the fight to the streets every day until justice is served.
"I hope they get them," Burnett said, "not just one but all of them."
