A new report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks Rochester as one of the top three cities for job growth in the state. Between August 2006 and August 2007, the city has seen 2,400 jobs created while the unemployment rate has held steady at 4.2 percent.
Some job recruiters say that opportunity appears to be knocking at Rochester’s door.
“We've had a lot more businesses contacting us, looking for people, looking for talent,” said Elaine McKenna, the vice president at Weterrings & Agnew in Rochester.
But some local recruiters and business owners say the job market still looks bleak on both ends. Ken McAlpin of McAlpin Industries says he has the jobs – but he is having a hard time filling those positions.
