On hand to welcome the games Wednesday, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn.

More than a thousand athletes will take part.

News 8 Now and Fox Rochester are proud sponsors.

Medal winners from our area were on hand, including Amanda Vito who competes in the athletic category.

"They come out and watch us and see what good sports we are.  We rally together and get along very well."

This is the first of four statewide games to be held here.  Rochester will host both the 2008 Empire State Winter and Fall Games and Winter Games in 2009.
