Mets Complete Worst Choke Job In MLB History

Mets_logo2007-10-01-1191253636.gifTom Glavine only recorded one out, giving up five hits and seven runs and committing one costly error, and the New York Mets capped one of the largest collapses in baseball history with an 8-1 loss to the Florida Marlins. Coupled with Philadelphia's 6-1 win over the Nationals, the Mets dropped out of contention. The Mets held a seven-game lead in the division with 17 games left, but somehow found a way to become the first team in MLB history to squander a lead that large in such a short period of time. Two other teams have lost seven games leads in September, but the last time it happened was 1938. New York, the defending NL East champs, finished the season 88-74. Cody Ross went 2-for-2 with a key two-run double for the Marlins, who finished their 71-91 season by taking two of three from the Mets.
