The workers walked away from about 80 plants on Monday, the first nationwide strike against GM since 1970. Besides job security, health care and pension benefits are issues that still need to be resolved. GM says it is committed to working with the UAW to settle the strike, but says the future of the company is at stake. Right now, the company has plenty of cars to sell, however a prolonged strike would cost the company billions.
