Rochester police caught a bank robbery suspect today 3 minutes after the bank sounded the alarm.
Around 9 Thursday morning, a bank teller at the HSBC on Lyell Avenue sounded an alarm that the bank was held up and the suspect left the scene riding a bicycle. Officers in the area got a description and caught up with the man just 3 blocks away from the bank. Police say the arrest was a mix of teamwork and a little bit of luck.
"The officers were doing their routine patrol; it just happened that officers were in the immediate area at the time of the alarm. Maybe some of it is luck but either way it worked out well," says Lt. Janssen Rembert of the Rochester police department.
Though the officers found an undisclosed amount of money from the suspect, the investigation continues.
