Wambach scores in first World Cup match

womenwclogo2007-09-11-1189550225.gifThe United States women's soccer team began World Cup play overseas in China at 5am eastern time Tuesday. Rochester’s Abby Wambach and the Americans facing North Korea in the first round.


In the 40th minute, Mercy grad Abby Wambach got her first chance at a goal off a corner kick. Her header went off the crossbar--no goal. In the 50th minute Wambach scored from long range.


The women end up tying the North Koreans 2-2.
