Fairport Teacher is NYS Teacher of the Year

Richard Ognibene, Jr. is a chemistry and physics teacher at Fairport High.

He's been a teacher for 21 years, 15 of those at Fairport.

Ognibene was recognized for his work mentoring new teachers.
He also leads a district wide program on civility and organizes a fundraiser for a school in Kenya, which makes him a role model to students.

Ognibene beat out four other finalists for the title and is now a candidate for national teacher of the year.
