"They'll never get over it, they'll never ever get over it," That's how a neighbor describes the anguish of the family of the one year old boy who was crushed to death friday evening. "Its just gonna be hell for them for a long long time," said the neighbor. Rochester Police say the father was backing out of his driveway on Dakota Street. He thought his son was playing in a nearby sandbox, but the child somehow made his way behind the truck. His father backed over him, killing him instantly. "Its just horrible, its horrible and you couldn't find two nicer people or two caring adults then they are to their children," said another neighbor. Today neighbors are shaking their heads in disbelief. "I have a five year old grandson that goes over to her house everyday to play with those kids and right now my grandson is in a state of shock also because he saw the whole thing," said one woman. This is the second time this year in Rochester that a child was killed by a truck backing-up. In April, four-year old Misael Santiago died after a U-Haul truck backed over him on Rohr Street. Police say the driver never saw the child who was playing behind the truck at the time. Now one more family is struggling with an unimaginable tragedy for which there are few words of comfort. "He came over and all I could do is just hug him. I have no words to say to this man. How can you, what can you say?" said a neighbor. Police are not expected to file charges in this accident.
