Lighting Monroe County's building purple for Alzheimer's awareness

As part of the agency’s upcoming “Champion’s Campain”, the Alzheimer's Association of Rochester has ordered more than 30,000 purple lights and gel covers for businesses and even residential homes. After the lights are lit on September 20^th, they will stay lit for two weeks to raise awareness about the disease and the need for a cure.

“We have about 24-thousand people in our area that are identified as having Alzheimer's disease, those 65 and up which means we don't even know about the folks who haven't gotten the diagnosis yet. And what the estimate is over the next 30 to 40 years is quadrupling,” says Teresa Galbier, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association of Rochester.

There is no cost to light a building. The Alzheimer’s Association will visit your business to determine whether the building can be safely lit.
