barry-bonds2007-08-28-1188322676.jpgThe ball San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds hit to break the all-time home run record goes on the auction block today.

Matt Murphy of Queens, New York ended up in possession of Bonds career home run ball number 756 on August 7th. With that shot, Bonds passed Hank Aaron as the home run king in Major League Baseball.  Last week, Murphy announced he couldn't afford to keep the historic item and would auction it off online.

The auction starts today and runs through September 15th through SCP Auctions. A spokesman for the firm believes the ball could fetch $500,000.
