Andres DeJesus, Keith Hartzog and Patrick Love were honored Friday by the City of
Rochester for their heroic actions on June 29th. The three men, who work at the Memorial Art Gallery, saved an unidentified woman’s life. The woman was being attacked on

Prince Street near the art gallery. The three were on a break when security at the gallery alerted them to the attack.

“And they said there was a lady in trouble,” says DeJesus.

“We seen the guy running from the scene and we took off after him,” says Hartzog, “he picked up a bolder and was going after one of our employees, Patrick.”

“Andres came from behind and then tackled him from there,” says Love, “and once he was down, we all just jumped on him and made sure he wasn't going anywhere.”

“What they do inside is guard and protect and preserve a collection of great art and here they are outside, doing the same thing but for the community,” says Grant Holcomb, director of the Memorial Art Gallery.

While the incident is out of the ordinary, it is an example of how citizens are beginning to help curb Rochester’s violence.

“Good things happen when we team up as a community, as a department. That's what we're seeing today,” says Chief Moore.

It was citizens who helped arrest the “Murder Unit” gang of Joseph Avenue. Police were able to build a case based on neighbors who reported suspicious activity.

“If you know of something that may be happening or that's happening, just call us,” says Moore who is hoping these recent acts of justice will inspire other residents to report a crime and help take back Rochester’s streets, “that person can't hurt you if they're not on the street.”
