vick2007-08-24-1187994764.jpgNFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended Falcons quarterback Michael Vick indefinitely without pay.

Goodell sent a letter to Vick to notify him of the punishment. In the letter, he called Vick's actions in an illegal dogfighting ring cruel and reprehensible.

Goodell said while the signal-caller hadn't bet on dogfights, he still was involved in illegal gambling and was in violation of his NFL Player Contract.

Vick filed a plea in federal court, saying he helped sponsor the ring and was involved in killing six-to-eight dogs earlier this year.

The commissioner said he would wait until the legal process was complete before reviewing the situation.

He also said the Falcons were no longer prohibited from taking action in the case.
