Last Murder Unit gang member sentenced

The U.S. Attorney's Office held a press conference Thursday morning announcing 31-year-old Shermell Prather is the last of 11 defendants sentenced as part of the "Murder Unit Gang." Prather got 12 years in prison.murder_unit2007-08-23-1187887502.jpg


The Feds, along with Rochester police, targeted this youth gang known for operating in the Joseph Avenue neighborhood. Authorities say for several years, the Murder Unit controlled all drug trafficking in the area and were involved in a number of shootings.


All 11 defendants are now serving time in federal prison.
