Henrietta is now home to a new heart research facility. The University of Rochester Medical Center's new Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute officially opened its doors Tuesday.
More than a 100 scientists and students will work out of the center, focusing their efforts on new way to diagnose and treat heart disease and heart failure. The plan is to come up with new medical treatments that parallel the University's committment to translational research
“We take fundamental discoveries that we are making regarding cardiovascular disease and translating them into clinical outcomes, clinical measures. Whether they be devices, drugs or new diagnostic measures to identify cardiovascular disease,” says Dr. Bradford Berk, CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center.
The U of R is already one of the top NIH funded universities in the nation. The hope is that the Aab Institute will one day make the U of R one of the top 10 heart research centers in the nation.
