BRIDGEINSPECTION2007-08-20-1187651065.jpgAn inspection is underway of the Bausch Memorial Bridge. It comes nearly three weeks after the deadly bridge collapse in Minneapolis. As News 8's Matt Molloy reports, the inspection itself is easing concerns for those who use the bridge everyday.

They are latched in and ready for inspection. Monday - crews began an intense review of the Bausch Memorial Bridge. It's welcome news to those who use it.

"How often do you use this bridge?”

Everyday (laughs) everyday," says Tim Fagan.

Timothy Fagan crosses the bridge on foot.

"In the aftermath of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis, did it make you think twice about going across any bridge?”

“Yes, yes...It's good that they are taking precautions just to check to see how safe they are," says Fagan.

The Bausch Memorial Bridge is the second to be inspected in Monroe County. Last week crews wrapped up a review of the Irondequoit Bay Bridge. Both have similiar structures to the one that collapsed in Minneapolis earlier this month.

"The fact is I primarily just walk it, not thinking about it, but after the situation like that happened I got really concerned," says Marcus Griffin.

"I was scared but it's ok as long as they fix them and check them, so I believe it will be alright as long as they look into it and keep doing what they're supposed to do," says Tonya Ponder.

The inspection of this bridge is expected to take about four days. The final report though could take months. In all - Governor Spitzer has ordered that 49 bridges across the state, including the Bausch Memorial Bridge, be inspected.
