The pit bull was being kept in a cage in the basement when someone it got out. The victim, a man in his 60's suffered severe bites to his upper arm and torso, though he is expected to survive.
Animal control removed the dog from the home for 10 days.
"This dog is not social. So, it's like a time bomb waiting to go off. If the dog's not social and kept in a crate like that, he'll bite again. It's in his blood now," says Richard Keppler of the Irondequoit Animal Control.
The family will get the dog back after 10 days, per state law, and plan to give it to a relative out of state.
