Fairport grad remembers Fairport's Angels in unique way

A musical memorial is the latest tribute one teen has organized to remember the five Fairport High School girls tragically killed in a car crash back in June. "I'm not too creative," says Marcus Merriman. But there are many people in the Fairport community who might disagree with the 18-year-old. "I was just approached by a lot of people who wanted the songs," says Merriman. He was friends with all five of the Fairport High School girls killed in the car crash back in june. Merriman remembers, "I was really close to three of them: Hannah Congdon, Bailey Goodman and Katie Shirley. I was really good friends with Sara Monnat and Meredith McClure." Marcus didn't have any idea the song he sang at their graduation--simply called "Graduation Song"--would in the end...Be the song that defined memories of. "I heard that people were playing it on the hill. Then i kind of realized it did have connection, " says Merriman. He played it at their funerals. "When the Monnats heard me play at the Congdon's and the Shirley's...they asked me to play at Sara's funeral." Now, Marcus is putting "Graduation Song" to CD before he leaves for college. I was really honored to be able to do it, i'm glad i took advantage of the opportunity because it feels great to be able to give back to something like that," says Merriman The cost, Merriman says,"Hopefully, we'll just give it out to a lot of people." He says it's something his five friends might want...Friends he says are still looking out for him. "It was kind of a funny situation...And i just kinda like looked up and laughed with them i guess...And it was weird, then afterwards i realized what i did," says Merriman. In addition to "Graduation Song", Marcus is also putting the songs: "Hear You Me" and "Hannah's Song" on the CD. The CD will be available in the next few months.
