It's not like they expect to find anything wrong with it. In fact, those in the know will tell you the Irondequoit Bay Bridge is in fairly good shape. They know this because it was looked at last year as part of a regular inspection schedule which calls on crews to give it a thorough once over every two years.Nonetheless, a team of inspectors from the State Department of Transportation began a "special" inspection of the span today upon the request of the Federal Government. Not surprisingly the request comes as a result of the recent deadly 35W in Minneapolis.
The inspection is expected to take the rest of the week to complete, and will be done during off peak hours meaning minimal traffic interruption.
Crews have a specialized piece of equipment to aid them in their work. Find out what it is and how it works by clicking on the video icon to watch our entire story .
