RTSBUSDECISION2007-07-30-1185835988.jpgCity school students will have to find a new way to get to class. That's if they take RTS buses that stop at schools.

The Federal Transit Administration has ruled against the partnership between RGRTA and City schools. The union that represents Laidlaw bus drivers brought this issue to the FTA. It said that buses were being used illegally as school buses, by stopping and parking at schools.

RGRTA says the agreement with the City boosts attendance, saves taxpayers more than a million dollars a year and has been rolling for more than a decade.

"This was a real surprising reversal for us.  For 12 years now the FTA has said this service was fine to do.  We're really surprised that they've reversed position and said that it's not," says Mark Aesch, R.G.R.T.A. Chief Executive Officer

RGRTA plans on filing a federal injunction in US district court this week. That would permit the program to continue.
