Rifles to be used in deer hunting season

Effective this year, deer hunters in 3 counties in the southern part of the state will be allowed to use rifles.

Governor Eliot Spitzer approved the legislation which allows for rifles to be used for big game hunting in Chemung, Steuben and Yates counties.

After one year, the legislation will have to be renewed.

The law will go into effect for the upcoming deer season which runs November 17th through December 9th.
