Governor Eliot Spitzer has suspended a top aide and will reassign another following a report by the Attorney General's office.
The report states members of spitzer's administration conspired to release politically damaging information about Senate Majority leader Joe Bruno's use of state aircraft.
The investigation comes as a result of an ongoing battle between Spitzer and Bruno.
Spitzer accused Bruno of using taxpayer funded transportation during political fundraisers.
Bruno accused Spitzer of using state police to spy on him.
According to the Attorney General's report, Bruno was in his legal right to use a state aircraft and there was no evidence of any illegal surveillance on the part of Spitzer's office.
The investigation also found two of Spitzer's aides were out of line when they used information they gathered to attack Bruno negatively.
Spitzer issued an apology saying, "I apologize to the people of the State of New York for having allowed this matter to become a distraction from the vital work at hand."
As a result of the investigation, Spitzer has suspended his longtime communications director without pay and plans to reassign his Assistant Deputy for Public Safety to an outside position.
