A 17-year old girl was sent to the hospital last night after falling from a rope and landing 50 to 60 feet down into a ravine in a wooded area of Irondequoit Bay Park East last night. West Webster Fire Department Chief Mark Cholach says the three teens were in a known party area of the park, some 1,500 feet into the woods when the girl fell, around 9:00 Wednesday night. One of the teens dialed 911 from a cell phone. Cholach says the girl either let go of the rope or lost her grip when she fell. The 17-year old, whose name has not been released, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries to her neck, back and arm. No one else was injured. It took rescue crews about two hours to haul the girl out of the ravine, they had to use a basket and rope hauling system to carry her up the hill and then out of woods. Chief Mark Cholach says the department averages about one call per year in the general area of Irondequoit Bay Park East. The terrain is rugged and theres lots of hills, Cholach reports the majority of calls are ATV and mountain bike accidents.
