Spencerport firefighters have put a lot of use to a new rescue boat. Twelve years ago, the department got a boat, specifically for water rescues and training. It was only used it a few times in those years before it melted during last years fire at the Spencerport fire department. The department just got a new boat last month and have already had to perform two rescues in that time. "Its been pretty beneficial to us so far," said Fire Cheif Joe Muniz. One of those rescues, happened just last night after a car went into the Erie Canal at the Union Street bridge. The driver of the car ended up being rescued by a passerby. After taking a break overnight, it took fire crews about seven hours to find the car and get it out of the canal this afternoon.
