stairWALK2007-05-14-1179141397.jpgRochester, N.Y. - Rochesterians have another way to "step up" and help The Humane Society of Greater Rochester at Lollypop Farm - 19 flights of steps to be exact. The Third Annual "Step it Up" Stair Climb, a fundraising event organized by the accounting firm of Mengel, Metzger, Barr & Co. (MMB), will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at HSBC Plaza, 100 Chestnut St., Downtown. All funds raised will go to benefit The Humane Society of Greater Rochester at Lollypop Farm.

"This stair climb is fun, easy to enter, and is an excellent way to help out a great local organization," said Tom Wolf, managing partner at MMB. "At Mengel, Metzger, Barr we believe in the importance of giving back to our community and we're so excited to partner with the Humane Society for this year's climb."

Registration begins at 5 p.m. on the concourse level of HSBC Plaza and the stair climb will begin at 6 p.m. There will be two stairwells open, a competitive Fast Lane in which climbers will acquire an official time and a fun Stroll Lane for those who want to climb at a relaxed pace and do not wish to be timed. Climbers can pre-register online at www.mengelmetzgerbarr.com or by calling Cathy Blood at (585) 423-1860 ext. 3249.

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest male and female climbers as well as the climber who raises the most funds. To participate, a minimum of $35 in pledges must be collected and brought to the climb.

The Humane Society of Greater Rochester at Lollypop Farm is committed to building lifelong bonds between people and animals through education, community outreach, and the prevention of cruelty. Each year, over 15,000 needy and homeless animals are admitted to Lollypop Farm. They make every effort to reunite lost pets with their families and find new homes for those who have been abandoned. Additional services include adoptions, rehabilitative foster care, a pet therapy program, humane education, a low-income spay & neuter program, obedience classes and a Feral Cat Trap-Neuter-Return program.

Mengel, Metzger, Barr & Co.
