In addition to free screenings and the presentation, participants will receive free counseling about hearing loss. Refreshments will also be available.

“Once you lose your hearing from noise damage, you can’t get it back,” says Dr. Peter Hixson, president of RHSC.
According to the League for the Hard of Hearing (www.lhh.org), continuous exposure to noise above 85 decibels can be harmful to hearing. Documented research has found that noise does not have to be very loud to lead to physiological changes in blood pressure, sleep, digestion, and other stress-related disorders.
While hearing loss is generally associated with the older generation, it affects both the young and the old. Anything from lawnmowers to iPods may contribute to damage.
“This is an opportunity for individuals to quickly determine whether they have a hearing problem,” says Dr. Ramona Stein, director of audiology operations. “They can find out what they need to do to either improve their hearing or protect their hearing from further damage.”
