The Eastside YMCA in Penfield did a lot of planning when designing their "tween center" for kids ages 8 to 12.

"It was essentially developed in response to member requests," said Stephen Murphy of the Y.  "Most importantly, before we moved forward with it, we met with groups of parents and kids to sample equipment and go through surveys."

The result was a room that blends both fitness and technology for kids only, and it includes video interactive cardio equipment, and even a Nintendo Wii.

"We're embracing that kids are technology orientated," said Murphy.  "I think there was a battle about video games being bad."

The focus on kids doesn't stop there.  There's a climbing wall, open to all ages, the ever popular swimming pool, and dozens of kid-focused classes and programs.  Soon to come, family yoga and Zoomba classes which are becoming a widely popular trend.  Now, kids and adults can enjoy them together.

"With our Activate America piece were focusing on building relationships and at our branch in particular, our biggest base is families," said Pam Burris of the Y.

And the family that plays together, stays fit together!
