Knighthawks Hold Off Blazers

The Rochester Knighthawks defeated the Boston Blazers 11-10 tonight at the Blue Cross Arena in their first ever meeting. With the victory the Hawks’ improved to 5-6 on the season and 5-2 at the BCA. Jamie Rooney (1g) scored his first goal as a Knighthawk to put the ‘Hawks ahead 10-9 and Chris Schiller (1g) got the game-winner on an empty net bomb from half field as the Rochester escaped the Blazers. In the first half it was a defensive stand still as neither teams’ offense could put the rock past Boston’s Anthony Cosmo (35 svs) or Rochester’s Pat O’Toole (37 svs, 1a). With a 5-3 lead Boston headed into the locker room hoping to stop a Rochester comeback in the second half. The Knighthawks had other thoughts as they came out blazing the third quarter outscoring Boston 3-1. Craig Point (2g) had both of his goals in the third and Shawn Evans (2g, 2a) got his first tally of the night to get the Knighthawks’ comeback started. Mac Allen started the fourth quarter scoring started by sprinting down the floor on a breakaway to get one of his two goals. Gary Gait (2g, 3a) stuck another highlight film gem with a one-handed sling shot that found the back of the cage on Cosmo’s stick side. With the game tied up at nine the Hawks’ used a three unanswered goals to cap the game and earn their fifth straight win at home and third in their last four games.
