The Rochester Americans took four scorers to beat the Peoria Rivermen tonight in a bout at the Carver Arena. The game leaves the Amerks 3-2 on their five game road trip and 1-1 on the season with the Rivermen.
Michal Repik earned the first star honors for the Amerks as he posted three points (1+2) on the night as Rory Fitzpatrick had a goal and an assist to help lead the team to victory. Tyler Plante boasted 34 saves in the win giving him the third star and giving him a 3-3 record since his return with red, white and blue.
Trent Whitfield had a goal and an assist on the night while Chris Conner had a goal earning him second star honors to lead the team. Ben Bishop had 17 saves for the ‘men.
Peoria came out firing as Wheatfield put the first of the night in just 0:40 seconds into the game, unassisted. Janis Spurkts however, in his 100th game played as an Amerk scored his 15th goal of the season to tie the game and remain the leading goal scorer on the team. Fitzpatrick scored his 4th goal of the season later in the first on a power play goal from Repik and David Brine.
The second period remained scoreless until just 1:12 remained on the clock as Jacob Micflikier put one past Bishop with assists from Repik and Stefan Meyer. Meyer’s assist was his second on the night with an earlier assist on Sprukts goal putting him at 25 points on the season.
Peoria worked to come back late in the third period as they scored on goal from Conner to get within one of the Amerks. Repik shut the door however as he scored an empty net goal just 0:27 seconds later. The goal marked his 13 goal of the season and gave him 33 points overall to lead the Amerks Squad and give them the 4-2 win.
The Amerks return home on Wednesday, February 18th to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at The Blue Cross Arena.
