The Rochester Americans fell 8-4 to the Grand Rapids tonight at Van Andel Arena. With the loss the Amerks dropped to 16-27-0-4 on the season. The loss also splits the Grand Rapids road trip to one apiece.
Leading the way for the Griffins was Francis Lemieux who completed the hat trick. Ryan Oulahen and Sergei Kolosov also added two goals each. Even McGrath was the play marker of the night as he finished the night with four assists.
The Griffins were first to draw blood as Ryan Oulahen found the back of the net for the 12th time this season at the 2:58 mark of the first. The Amerks tied the game just over three minutes later when Karl Stewart buried his ninth goal of the season. Assisting on Stewart’s goal was Michal Repik and David Brine.
Before the second period was three minutes old the Griffins regained the lead as Francis Lemieux beat Amerks goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu. The Amerks once again answered the quick goal with one of their own, coming off the stick of Drew Larman. The Griffins took their third lead of the night at the 18:11 mark of the second on a power play goal from Darren Helm.
The Amerks tied the game at three as Ross Calrson scored just over a minute into the third period. The Griffins answered with a pair of goals from Oulahen and Lemieux, both got their second goal of the night. The game became 6-3 when Kolosov beat Beckford-Tseu for his second goal of the season. Repik made it 6-4 when he scored his eighth goal of the season at the 18:14 mark of the third on the power play. The Griffins answered Repik’s goal with two of their own from Lemieux and Kolosov.
Rochester returns home as it hosts the Rockford IceHogs on Wednesday, February 4th at The Blue Cross Arena. Faceoff is at 7:05pm.
