Amerks Blow 3-0 Lead, Lose In Shootout

The Rochester Americans were put down by the Hamilton Bulldogs by a 4-3 score decided by a shoot out tonight at the Copps. The loss leaves the Amerks 1-4 against the Montreal Canadiens affiliate this season. The Amerks were led with a two goals from Karl Stweart in the first period giving him his sixth and seventh of the season. The forward was also nominated as second star of the contest. Mike Brodeur had another solid night posting 40 saves. The Bulldogs put up a good team effort to come back against the Amerks. Yannick Weber was awarded the first star of the game as he posted one goal and one assist on the night to hoist the Bulldogs to victory. In goal for the dogs, Marc Denis made 24 saves. The Amerks came out in front first period with a three to nothing lead to start the game. Karl Stewart led the team off with a goal just 1:29 into the first period with assists from Jordan Henry and David Brine. Kenndal McArdle was to score the second goal for the team as Brine posted another assist on the night. To finish the period Stewart scored a shorthanded goal from Janis Sprukts to put the Amerks up 3-0 entering the second period. The Bulldogs began to fight back in the second period. Third star of the game, David Desharnais scored the first goal for the Bulldogs to start the comeback for the team. Max Pacioretty was next to score for the dogs bringing them within one and to finish the second period 3-2. The third period went scoreless with the Amerks still ahead up until there was only 5:24 to play as Weber scored to tie the game. The game then ended as both teams went scoreless through over time. The momentum for Hamilton seemed to carry them through the shootout as they scored three goals from Yanick Lehoux, Mike Glumac, and Desharnais. Rochester only posted one point in the shootout from Jacob Mcflikier allowing Hamilton to take the game with a score of 4-3. Rochester now heads to Manitoba to play two games against the Moose on Friday January 2nd, and Saturday January 3rd.
