Andrew White is one of the hardest working musicians around----and he hasn't even graduated high school! He sings in the A Capella Vocal Jazz Ensemble at Spencerport High School.....the only chorus of its kind in New York State. "We sing primarily jazz music," says Andrew, "but we're learning to experiment with lots of different styles and it's pretty cool. I've been watching this group perform since my older sisters were involved with music programs here at Spencerport High School and I was really just wowed when I was younger, seeing it performed, and the really cool stuff that they do." When Andrew's not performing, he's learning. He studies music theory with Ben Wadsworth, a graduate student at the Eastman School of Music. Throw in drumming, two bands, the concert chorus, and musical theater----and you get one busy routine! But Andrew loves it. "I've been in about 22 musicals since I started in the 7th grade," he says. "I do community theater, and just recently this year I was lucky enough to join the Mercury Opera Company, which is a very elite group." "Andrew's a student who has spent all four years trying to get everything he could from our music department," says Alan Jones, Director of Choral Music at Spencerport High School. "His intellectual curiosity and desire to improve has impressed me ever since I had him as a freshman." Andrew will study music education in college----with an eye toward performing and teaching after that. "Singing is definitely my forte, it's my passion, it's what I want to do," he says. Congratulations, Andrew White!
