Want to hear an amazing sound?
Click the video to hear Katrina King play the flute. The young lady from Marion fills up the majestic concert hall at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance in Rochester.
Katrina, who's homeschooled by her parents, is just 16 years old. She's already about to graduate high school, which makes her dedication to flute all the more remarkable.
"Things like vibrato and phrasing and articulation. There's a lot of different dynamic capacity," said Katrina. "There's so much hard music to learn. I want to improve, and I enjoy playing."
Kathryn Scarbrough has been teaching Katrina flute for three years.
"She'll come in and have accomplished more than what the assignment is, which is every dream of a teacher to have that happen," said Scarbrough. "The fact that she loves music so much makes me love music all the more."
At the age of 14, Katrina was one of four flutists from across the country to attend the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center's Young Artists program in Boston, Massachusetts. At 15, Katrina made the wait list to attend the Eastman School of Music.
Her motivation is simple.
"If you love it, word hard at it and do your best."
