The Rochester Americans were defeated by the Manchester Monarchs tonight at the Blue Cross Arena 4-2, dropping their sixth straight contest. Rochester was lead by David Collins with two goals. Chris Beckford-Tseu made 16 saves off 18 shots before being relieved by David Shantz, who made 18 saves off of 19 shots. Manchester was led by Teddy Purcell and Andrew Campbell, each with one goal and one assist, while Matt Moulson and Gabe Gauthier each had two assists. Manchester goaltender Jonathan Quick made 19 saves off 21 shots on route to the Monarch win. Just 2:45 into the first period Azevedo, with a two-man advantage, scored off a rebound let out by Amerks goalie Beckford-Tseu, after an initial shot by Teddy Purcell was denied. Manchester then extended its lead with just over five minutes to play in the period with a blast from the point by Voynov, past Beckford-Tseu on the stick side. Beckford-Tseu made 16 saves before being relieved by David Shantz. The second period began slowly, but the Amerks picked up momentum with a goal at 13:39 by Collins, with the assists from Jacob Micflikier and Franklin MacDonald to come within one. Just a couple minutes later, Collins with his second of the night tied it up 2-2, with a shot from the near boards, which went off a Monarch defensemen and past goaltender Johnathan Quick. Manchester came back swinging in the third with a power-play goal at 2:33 with Purcell’s shot on the near side in between the legs of Shantz, to lead 3-2. The Monarchs then added an empty-net, power-play goal by Andrew Campbell with just under a minute left to play to win the game 4-2. Rochester travels to Toronto on Wednesday, November 26th in search for its first win against the Marlies this season at Ricoh Coliseum. The 11:30 a.m. day-game matinee will be the third of eight scheduled meetings between the North Division rivals and will be broadcast tape-delayed on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. The Amerks are home again on Friday, November 28th to host the Lake Erie Monsters for a 7:35 p.m. faceoff at The Blue Cross Arena.
