A big night for some local veterans

The first welding class put on by both the Veterans Outreach Center and the Rochester City School District graduated Thursday.

The class of 12  was designed to help give rturning vets the tools they need to get jobs.

One vet says he's learned a lot.

"I'm just grateful to be in the position that I am," said Maurice Howard. "I have some weight now and I'm gonna use it to my advantage."

"There's a lot of people in our community that are very proud to help veterans and this is a fine example of a collaboration coming to an ultimate success," said Nina Sivera of the Veterans Outreach Center.

Several employers, including Klein Steel, met with the graduates as part of a job fair.

The VOC hopes to expand this program in the future.
