Florian Sculz travels around the world, but it's in Honeoye Falls where he became a serious photographer.

The world famous photographer is no stranger to the school district. Coming from Germany, he was an exchange student at the local high school in 1992.

"It's a nice thing to circle back to something where you started here in Honeoye Falls. I did my exchange stay as a high school student and I went out a lot into the field here photographing birds and little foxes," said Florian Schulz.

On Monday, the nature photographer paid a visit to Honeoye Falls to talk about his book "To the Arctic." His photography features wildlife in some of the most remote places in the world. He captures once in a lifetime photos like coming face to face with a polar bear.

"On one hand, you're so excited you get low down on the eyes to get this perfect image, and then he's coming and he's coming and then you're wondering how close is this polar bear really going to get and you start to swallow. Even though its minus 30 degrees, you're getting hot. This is one of the most exciting moments," said Florian Schulz.

Superintendent Gene Mancuso says Florian's visit is a reminder to students that anything is possible.

"The world's a big place and Honeoye Falls is a small place. It's nice for them to make those connections, so that they can see even from this little small place they can make a difference too," said Mancuso.

"I had some great teachers here so I thought coming back to that same community and maybe inspiring a child that you can live your dream or maybe go about something that you're passionate about I think is a nice thing," said Schulz.

Florian will make a public appearance at St. John Fisher College Tuesday night before continuing his tour.
