Skylar Gausney-Jones had 23 points leading Bishop Kearney over Harpursville 54-44 in the Class C state final at Hudson Valley CC Sunday afternoon.

The Kings scored the first 11 points of the game, but Harpursville rallied and BK trailed by one at the half. However, Kearney closed the third quarter with a 14-7 run and led 37-33 with eight minutes to play.

The fourth period began with the Kings scoring six in a row, including two fast break baskets from Gausney-Jones. Kearney's lead ballooned to 13 at 51-38 and they were never threatened again.

It's the first state title for the Kearney girls. BK's boys team also won a state championship Sunday, making Kearney the first Section V school to win both finals in the same season. The Kings are the first school anywhere in New York to win both since 1981.
