We spoke to Rochester Bishop Emeritus Matthew Clark about the election of Pope Francis. Clark is now retired, and the diocese is awaiting the appointment of a new bishop. Clark does not know when that will happen, but he is optimistic about the future.
"I don't think his election, aside from slowing down the process will have much impact," Clark said.
Meanwhile, President Obama offered prayers and warm wishes to the newly elected pope. The President issued a statement praising Pope Francis for his work with the poor as a cardinal in Argentina. Vice President Joe Biden, the first Catholic vice president, will lead the U.S. delegation to Francis' installation in Rome.
