The people who rescued a Chili family from its burning home are being hailed as heroes.

The town of Chili will honor those who saved four members of the Ogg family Wednesday evening at a Chili Town Board meeting.

"I mean I can't thank them enough," said Joe Ogg, Chili.

A grateful Joe Ogg choked back tears as he remembers the heroic acts of a community that saved his loved ones January 24th.

"I tell people I feel like the luckiest guy alive. And they say, how can that be? You had a fire destroy your house and your family almost. And it's just everything worked out," added Ogg.

U.S. postal worker Barbara Langdon came upon the burning house that morning and didn't hesitate.

Shortly thereafter, police and volunteer firefighters arrived on scene.

"It definitely gives you a bit of an outlook on life. It feels like you get a second chance," said Ogg.

More than one month after the fire, two members of the Ogg family continue to recover at Strong Hospital. Katelyn Ogg and her 7-month old daughter, Mara, remain hospitalized. Judy Ogg, 67, and RJ Lockwood,7, were released.

The town of Chili will publicly express its gratitude tonight at a town board meeting.

"They are volunteers. They do not get paid a dime to do what they do. They do it because they love it. They do it because they want to serve and give back to the community. And that, in and of itself, is priceless," said David Dunning, Chili Town Supervisor.

Joe says he wouldn't miss the chance to say thanks.

Another opportunity to see them and just tell them how much they helped us and how much they impacted our lives," said Ogg.
