After a third voting session, the cardinals of the Catholic Church have chosen their next pope.

The announcement was made around 3:15 p.m. that Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, will be the next pope of the Catholic Church. Bergoglio is the archbishop of Argentina. He will take the name of Pope Francis I. The white smoke could be seen from the Vatican just after 2 p.m. eastern time. The conclave of the cardinals began on Tuesday with two voting sessions. Both sessions yielded no decision on the successor to Pope Benedict XVI. Benedict retired over health concerns, saying he did not think he had the strength to continue. We will bring you more information on this story as it becomes available.
