Dr. Colleen Fogarty of Highland Family Medicine was a guest Thursday morning on News 8 at Sunrise to discuss a program aimed at reducing fat consumption.

The program is called Meatless Mondays and was started at Johns Hopkins.  The idea is to reduce a person's meat intake by 15 percent.  Dr. Fogarty said that can help a person reduce the risk of heart disease and other ailments.

The average American receives 67 percent of their dietary protien from meat.  Dr. Fogarty said there are many nutritious alternatives that can be used as protien boosting substitutes.

She also cautioned pregnant women to consult with their physician before making any dietary change.
