Jalen Smith and Justin Washington took the charge for Batavia in the 4th quarter as they rolled to a 21-4 run down the stretch, winning 65-51 over Hornell in the Class B state qualifier.

Early in the 4th quarter, Hornell held a 47-44 lead thanks to a 3-pointer from Richard Brooks, after that it became The Smith and Washington Show. The two players combined for 36 points (25 for Smith, 11 for Washington).

A major statistical victory for Batavia came on the glass. The Blue Devils out-rebounded Hornell 41-24. Washington finished with 13 rebounds, 7 offensive.

For Hornell, it ends a magical run that saw the Red Raiders win their first sectional title since 1988. Brendan Buisch led Hornell with 16 points, while Jimmy Dagon chipped in 13.

Batavia will take on Olean of Section VI in the state quarterfinals on Saturday, March 10th at 4:30 p.m. from Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
