Beware of phony show tickets. The Rochester Broadway Theater League issued a warning one day before the opening of "The Book of Mormon."

Fake tickets are a growing concern nationwide.

Sylvia Heard holds three tickets to the upcoming show "Elmo Live." She bought them right at the box office.

"I'm guaranteed the seats that I want. I see where I'm going to be sitting. And my card is charged what it needs to be charged," said Sylvia Heard, Rochester.

Dan Grossglass does business in person too.

"I guess I'm kind of old fashioned. And just like the personal touch. And here at the Auditorium Theater, they always answer your questions and you know what tickets you're getting," said Dan Grossglass, Rochester.

The Rochester Broadway Theater League is trying to encourage other show-goers to do exactly what Sylvia and Dan do.

"Anybody who can go on the internet, can get duped," said Linda Glosser, RBTL Executive Vice President.

The internet has opened up a whole new world to ticket sales. Unfortunately it sometimes also invites trouble.

"With the advent of the secondary ticketing marketplace, we just see more and more people going to websites that aren't really the official ones. So, they always need to be cautious that they're either not overpaying for tickets or getting tickets that are not valid when they get here," added Glosser.

The RBTL says it has only had a handful of problems, but it's a growing trend. To try and prevent scams and secondary ticketing, the RBTL is running a series of psa's, warning ticket buyers to beware.

The best way to prevent secondary ticketing, avoid it. The theater suggests buying your ticket directly from the box office or Ticket Master.
