The two schools have faced off in the sectional final in each of the last three years, with Gates-Chili now holding a 2-1 advantage after last year's loss.
With the score tied at 16 midway through the second, the Spartans rolled off a 10-2 run to end the half, taking a 26-18 lead into the break. The third quarter was all Gates-Chili, with the Spartans outscoring the Patriots 20-6 to take a 46-24 lead into the fourth.
Gates-Chili senior Kori Bayne-Walker took home tournament MVP honors and scored a game-high 20 points for the Spartans. Cierra Dillard added 23 while Diona Johnson chipped in 18.
Just as strong as Gates-Chili was on offense, their defense was top-notch as well, limiting Penfield's star forward Margot Hetzke to only five points.
The Spartans next game is Monday in the state tournament qualifier. Gates-Chili will take on Irondequoit at 8:00 from Eastridge High School.
